A bit delayed- but Bee was due for his 10 year old trip with Mom and Dad- so we hopped on a quick flight up to Langkawi for a weekend of jet skiing and goofing at the Ritz!
We arrived mid day Friday and explored our hotel-‘built right into a forest! The lobby felt more like a treehouse! (Oh yeah and they had a gong) We hit up the infinity pool while Bee showed off his jumping skills – making spectacular diving catches.
Next off to the beach, where to our surprise we found hundreds of blue gray little starfish. Since the silly guys were stranded by low tide, we spent 30 minutes throwing them back into the sea! Dad even finally mastered paddle boarding – well at least in a bay that was as flat as a lake….Then back to the pool for an awesome sunset! ,After a seafood dinner and an episode of FreshPrince of Bel Air we called it a night.
The next day was our big jet ski safari! We took a quick cab ride to the Tengah beach where we joined our group for an epic 4 hour tour of the island of Langkawi! Bee started out with Mom as we sped along to some gorgeous limestone cliffs! The jets skis sped through the water as we tried took maintain the V formation suggested by our guide. Our 1st land stop was The Lake of the Pregnant Maiden on Dayang Bunting island- a goofy freshwater lake on one of the islands with its waters famous for their powers of fertility! We did some swimming and paddle boating and watched a monkey outsmart one of the shopkeepers for a coconut. Then a swim stop right off the jet skis where there was an incredible echo of the nearby cliffs. Next after Bee switched to ride with Dad- we ventured out to the farthest island where huge cliffs awaited! Then Bee got his long awaited chance to drive on his own- his highlight! And drive he did – up to full speed on the straightaway and hit one turn so hard he flipped him, Dad and the jet ski right over! On the way back, had a great stop where we saw dozens of Brahminy kites and White Bellied Sea Eagles- easily the most eagles we have ever seen outside of the Linc! A last stop at a beautiful beach for some swimming and then we raced back to the main island. After a Mediterranean feast for lunch, we headed back to the hotel.
Back at the hotel, we caught a cocktail class where Bee mixed his own virgin passion fruit mojito and then some more swimming!
We hit up a nature hike where we saw the black and white dusky leaf monkeys and both the oriental pied hornbill and the even bigger great hornbill! Also learned the unique native plants of Langkawi – one where a natural steroid was found. For dinner e we hit up a great Malaysian restaurant.
Dad took photos of a few more birds in the AM before a breakfast buffet feast and then we had time for tennis, giant chess, some great poolside satay and burgers and of course more swimming before we took our flight home! What a way to celebrate turning 10!
