Monday June 25
Today we went to the ACM(Asian civilisations museum). They have a really cool exhibit where there is a ton of ancient relics that they found on a shipwreck- you can see more details in our earlier blog http://adventuresfromthelittlereddot.com/2018/04/16/aisian-civilization-museum/ …
For lunch we tried a cool cafe on the banks of the Singapore River, called Gastronomia ( there might be one in your area so if there is check it out!) Bee had a really good pasta dish and a lemon soda to drink!
Na’s impressions:
Before our visit, Bee described the ship that had been discovered near Singapore and the way the ceramics were displayed. He was right on! The beautiful bowls, mounted on stakes formed “waves” of well-crafted and delicately-colored bowls. And the other exhibits in the museum gave us a good sampling of the history of the region. But my favorite was the arts and performance section which displayed musical instruments that were likely used in temples and ceremonies (gongs, chimes, percussion). Bee is good at spying interesting places to eat and this day was no exception. I liked the gelato!
No’s impression:
Bee stepped behind a screen in the performance room and imitated the shadow puppets that were popular at one time. He looked professional! I also liked an exhibit of Angkor, Cambodia’s sacred city. The ancient relics were really cool.
Tuesday June 26
On Tuesday, we went to the Botanical Gardens – we started out by walking through the park to the National Orchid Garden- Na and No really liked the flower arches in the garden- After the park, we stopped at “Lets Eat” for lunch where Bee tried chicken curry – pretty tasty but a little bit spicy
Na’s impressions:
It was a cloudy day in the gardens, which made the colorful flowers stand out even more. And there were orchids galore! We stopped in to see the small art museum, featuring a local artist who studied the tropical flowers and butterflies in the gardens. . Bee helped us find the right bus to get home in time to meet Jay after school.
No’s impressions:
We spent time by the lake, watching Bee try to get photos of the black swans. They weren’t very cooperative and wouldn’t pose for him, but he still got some excellent shots! We didn’t let a little rain dampen our day.
Wednesday June 27
Today we went to the music box museum. They had literally every type of music box there. We spent like 3Â Â hours there taking the guided tour of all the music boxes throughout history.
Na’s impressions:
The music box museum was tucked into a hidden section near a very colorful Buddhist temple. What a find! There were music boxes and phonographs from all over the world, including one of Edison’s and the RCA phonograph and RCA’s little Nipper dog.
No’s impressions:
Our guide wore white gloves and was very careful as he showed us the workings of the music boxes. He knew so much about them. I also enjoyed visiting the Buddhist temple. The courtyard had side altars with some history and info the important leaders of the religion.
Thursday June 28
Today we stayed home all day. We went swimming and did some other stuff. That evening we went to ion sky, which is an observatory that is 56 stories up!
Na’s impressions:
A day off from sightseeing! But not a day of rest. Bee worked on some of the new piano music he got (popular songs that he’s always singing!) And then he got to work creating a mega marble track! But when Jay came home, we got to do something really cool. Jay had been talking about the Ion Sky, a panoramic viewing spot on the top floors of a very modern shopping mall. The nighttime view of Singapore was magical. There were some very pretty poems about clouds, including the words from Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” (I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It’s cloud’s illusions I recall…) Thank you for taking us into the Singapore Sky, Jay and Bee!
No’s impressions:
That was one crazy marble track! It was almost as tall as Bee. It was sturdy, too. It was still standing when we left for home!
(editor’s note: the marble track in question is still standing!)
Friday June 29
Today we stayed home all day(yes again). Also that day that evening went to a bird park for like an hour and saw some really cool birds along the northern coast which is the most rural part of Sngapore.
Na’s impressions:
It was hard to spot birds in the city, so getting out to the wetlands was a great idea! But our first experience were these crazy frogs in the ponds…never did get my eyes on one, but the sounds were lively and loud! But watch out for the lizards! (Whew! Didn’t see any!) This place deserves another visit when we return. Boardwalk and viewing platforms gave us a really good look at Singapore’s wet and wild area.
No’s impressions:
Great shots of bright blue collared kingfishers and night herons – and Jay and Bee and their dad, all trying to get better shots than me! It was a fun trip to this area!
( 2nd editor’s note: in case you are wondering the first two weeks were written by Bee as Jay was still in school and wasn’t there with them)
(3rd editor’s note: sorry about the pictures being first, it wouldn’t let me move them)

The visit back to the US won’t seem too exciting after these kinds of adventures, but we can’t wait to play some more, no matter where we are!
