Majestic Gates to the Gardens

A National Treasure of Singapore

Over the course of our 1st few weekends we check out the incredible botanical gardens.   As we walked through the gardens, we saw awesome tropical flowers, amazing fish and turtles in the ponds and giant lizards crawling along the ground- and even a cannonball tree.

The cannonball tree – look out below!
Even snuck in a great meal at the garden cafe- highlight was a delicious beef/ egg salad and Bee having a waffle with ice cream for lunch!
Cool goldfish and mean looking catfish!
Right out of Jurassic Park…
I am Yertle the Turtle and I am king of the pond…

National Orchids Garden

We also went to the orchid garden during the National Singapore Orchid festival.  Thousands of orchids were on display.  We learned that orchids are one of the easiest flowers to hybridize, so many new types are created each year.  We  saw the Barrack Obama orchid – as every celebrity who visits get an orchid named after them. All the national orchid competition winners were all on display.  There were some amazing displays like the orchid checkerboard which unfortunately wasn’t in bloom and the one with the ballerina- see picture below. All in all the orchid festival was amazing!

Beautiful! Who is that glowing couple in front of those elaborate gates?! I bet this garden is pretty spectacular all year round. Lucky! Love the little creatures you’ve posted, too. No birds yet? Can’t wait to hear what else you’re finding! But seriously…when does school end????
